چکیده

This review provides a comparison of submicron-diameter carbon filaments and conventional carbon fibers as fillers in composite materials. Carbon filaments (0.1 mm diameter, catalytically grown) are superior to conventional carbon fibers (discontinuous) as a filler in providing polymer–matrix and cement–matrix composites for electromagnetic performance, but are inferior to the fibers as a filler for composites for electrical and mechanical performance. Concerning the electromechanical behavior, the filaments are inferior to the fibers for cement–matrix composites, but are superior to the fibers for polymer–matrix composites.  2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. FABRICATION OF CARBON FIBERS FROM COMMERCIAL WET SPIN POLYACRYLONITRILE FIBERS

Carbon fibers are fabricated from different materials such as special polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers, cellulose fibers and pitch. But PAN fibers are recognized as the most widely used precursor for the present-day manufacture of carbon fibers. The process of fabrication carbon fibers from special PAN fibers is composed of two steps including oxidative stabilization at low temperature and carbon...

Investigation on magnetic and microwave behavior of magnetite nanoparticles coated carbon fibers composite

Radar absorbing materials, i.e. magnetite (Fe3O4) coated carbon fibers (MCCFs) were fabricated by electro-deposition technique. Black-colored single spinel phase Fe3O4 nanoparticles was easily synthesized by hydrothermal method using reduction of a Fe (III) - Triethanolamine complex in an aqueous alkaline solution at 60-80 ◦C. Uniform and compact Fe3O4 films were fabricated on nitric acid treat...

Transformation of the released asbestos, carbon fibers and carbon nanotubes from composite materials and the changes of their potential health impacts

Composite materials with fibrous reinforcement often provide superior mechanical, thermal, electrical and optical properties than the matrix. Asbestos, carbon fibers and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been widely used in composites with profound impacts not only on technology and economy but also on human health and environment. A large number of studies have been dedicated to the release of fibr...
